Pritam And Pedro Web Series Critic Reveiw:
It’s an age-old but workable mix.
Stodgy, old school police inspector Pedro (Arshad Warsi) can’t pronounce fuchsia, 1-2-3-4 is his password and he’s ready to tear his hair when an influencer wants to file an FIR to find her missing followers. It’s a punishment posting for Pedro when a minister on the warpath (Satyadeep Mishra) has him taken off his regular beat to head the cyber cell.
Pedro and tech wiz Pritam (Vir Hirani) make an odd pair. But when the minister’s bratty son goes missing, it is Pedro’s traditional sleuthing methods and Pritam’s new-age tech skills that combine to get to the bottom of the crime.
Inspired by Amit Dubey’s cybercrime books Hidden Files and Return of the Trojan, director Avinash Arun Dhaware follows the Raju Hirani principle of light-hearted storytelling with a social heart.
Pritam, Pedro and someone from the minister’s family too, have pasts that haunt the present. Sometimes conveniently, all their back stories dovetail to mix with the schoolboy’s kidnap, everybody’s past finding a link to the same crime trail. It doesn’t always ring true especially when the missing kid’s mother doesn’t lift a finger to point the cops in the right direction.
Showing up as a common factor is Martin (Vikrant Massey), a tech genius in revenge mode.
Shashank Kunwar, Pranjal Saxena, Abhijat Joshi, Swanand Kirkire and Suyash Trivedi join hands with Rajkumar Hirani in the writing department to add bits of humour (most of it from Pedro’s tech illiteracy), moments with a heart-connect and a comment on life-threatening online software like Blue Whale. It’s a red flag the team waves to families with vulnerable kids.
Anchoring the show is Arshad Warsi, solid as a good old-world cop. Bringing in freshness is Vir Hirani, credible as a tech-savvy youngster on the run from a guilt-laden past. A deep voice and a pleasant personality are his current pluses. Vikrant Massey marks his presence in a role that has bits of black, white and grey. Efficiency from familiar faces like Boman Irani, Rajesh Sharma, Bhavna Pani, Shruti Marathe and Mona Singh keeps it moving. But it is the well-written cameos by Sanjay Dutt and Virendra Sehwag that bring on the smiles.
With Rajkumar Hirani at the editing console, the episodes are crisply short and he teams with Shantanu Moitra to give you a hummable ‘Kabhi kisi ko maaf kar bhi do’, a feel-good tune that lingers.
Pritam And Pedro – Watch it or not?: A breezy weekend watch with something for every member of the family.
