Sometimes, legal battles don’t make noise with verdicts but with paperwork. And in Brad Pitt’s long-running dispute with Angelina Jolie over their French winery, a recent court order has quietly shifted a momentum. And this time, the advantage appears to be with Brad.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ruled that Angelina Jolie must submit unedited communications linked to the Chateau Miraval case. The order was issued on Wednesday, December 17 just a day before Pitt turned 62, marking a notable development in a fight that has dragged on for years.
What the Court Ordered
Granting Brad’s motion to compel discovery, the court directed Angelina to hand over complete, unredacted versions of 22 documents. These communications exchanged between non-attorneys were earlier withheld under claims of privilege.
The court order stated, “The Court orders Jolie to produce in full, within 45 days of this Order, unredacted versions of the communications exchanged between non-attorneys in the 22 documents identified on Jolie’s February 14, 2025 privilege log.”
According to a source quoted by People, Pitt’s legal team believes the emails are critical. “The emails would prove Jolie has been disingenuous since the start regarding her true intentions about selling her share of the business to Stoli,” the source claimed.
Why the Winery Matters
Brad Pitt sued Angelina Jolie in 2022 after she sold her stake in Chateau Miraval to Tenute del Mondo, part of the Stoli Group. He argues that both had agreed not to sell without mutual consent. Jolie denies such an agreement ever existed.
In response, Jolie countersued accusing Pitt of “waging a vindictive war against” her. Her lawyers claim Pitt refused to buy her share unless she signed a non-disclosure agreement which they say was “designed to force her silence about his abuse and cover-up.”
The allegations stem from a 2016 private jet incident. Pitt was investigated but not charged and Jolie chose not to pursue the case further at the time.
What’s at Stake Now
Court filings reveal Pitt is seeking $35 million in damages tied to Jolie’s 2021 sale. Jolie’s lawyer Paul Murphy has strongly objected, saying, “The court’s ruling violates that law, undermines Ms. Jolie’s fundamental right to a fair trial… We will appeal.”
With their divorce finalized in December 2024, the winery remains the last unresolved chapter for them and it’s far from over.
