Not many know that actress Madhoo, who became a pan-Indian name with the iconic film Roja, shares a special family bond with legendary actress Hema Malini. In fact, Madhoo and Hema Malini’s connection runs deeper than just being from the same film industry – they are cousins! For those unaware, Madhoo’s father and Hema Malini’s mother are siblings.
In a heartfelt interview with Lehren Retro, Madhoo opened up about their bond, revealing that Hema Malini has been a constant source of silent inspiration in her life. As their relationship runs deep, the Phool Aur Kaante actress reveals that she affectionately calls her “Hemu.” “Hema Ji has been my silent inspiration,” Madhoo added. She shared that even though she never sat down for any formal learning from her cousin, her presence and journey left a strong impression on her.
A Letter That Meant The World
When asked about Hema Malini’s reaction to her performance in Roja, Madhoo was visibly overwhelmed. She called it a “priceless” moment in her life. “She wrote a letter to me, saying that she loved it and many more to come, and all that,” Madhoo revealed with a smile. She added that the letter held so much value to her that she kept it safe for years, calling it “a huge and special moment” in her journey.
Madhoo also shared another unforgettable memory – the time when Hema Malini directed her in the film Tell Me O Kkhuda. During one emotional scene, Hema forgot to say “cut” and Madhoo continued acting. After the shot, Hema looked at her and said “You’re a very good actress”. Madhoo said this moment meant a lot to her, one that she would never forget.
