A comparative examination of Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, and Raj Kapoor, focusing on their filmographies and the evolution of their stardom.

Raj Kapoor – The Icon and Foundation of Hindi Cinema, Period: 1940s–1970s Raj Kapoor was more than just a star; he was a director, producer, and showman who played a pivotal role in defining the golden age of Hindi cinema. His notable films include Awara, Shree 420, Sangam, and Mera Naam Joker. His fame extended worldwide, especially in nations such as the USSR, where he contributed not only successful films but also innovative cinema that fused entertainment with social critique.

Rishi Kapoor – A charismatic Star who was unable to fully leverage his potential. His first movie Bobby (1973) — one of the most significant successes of its era, establishing him as a romantic lead. He leaned towards ensemble films during the ’70s and ’80s (e.g., Amar Akbar Anthony, Kabhi Kabhie, Coolie), which diminished his individual star appeal. He did not consistently achieve solo blockbusters following his early triumphs. He maintained his relevance and respect over the decades, even taking on character roles later in his career (Agneepath, Kapoor & Sons).

Ranbir Kapoor – A Contemporary Star with Ups and Downs Initial Setback: His first film Saawariya (2007) did not succeed, but he gradually climbed to success with Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), and Rocket Singh and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (over ₹175 cr, enjoyed popular appeal). After 2013, failures like Besharam, Bombay Velvet, and Tamasha impacted his career trajectory. He reclaimed Star Status with Sanju (2018), which reinstated him as a leading star. Animal (2023) – over ₹500 cr net, demonstrated his strong connection with audiences and his transition into more serious roles.

Although Ranbir has achieved significant success, he has yet to reach the cultural influence or legacy-building achievements of Raj Kapoor. But when we compare him with Rishi Kapoor, he is ahead from his father.
