Despite their undeniable on-screen chemistry in successful films such as Caravan and Bombay to Goa, the ongoing rumors regarding their relationship resulted in a hiatus of two to three years in Irani’s career. She stated that producers were reluctant to collaborate with her, likely due to the belief that she was involved with a married man.
Irani further conveyed that Mehmood’s lack of comment on the issue exacerbated the situation. She pointed out that when questioned about the rumors, he neither affirmed nor refuted them, which fueled additional speculation and ultimately impacted her career prospects.
Following this difficult phase, Irani returned to the spotlight with a role provided by filmmaker Dada Kondke, which significantly revitalized her career. She persisted in taking on diverse roles, including antagonistic characters, and continued to be a notable presence in the industry.
