KL Rahul’s Stunning Ton vs England Earns Applause from Athiya and Suniel Shetty

The exceptional performance of cricketer KL Rahul at Headingley, where he achieved a century in the second inning against England, was certainly acknowledged by his family. His wife, Athiya Shetty, radiated pride, while his father-in-law, Suniel Shetty, was quick to commend his abilities.

KL Rahul, alongside Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who has now scored centuries in both innings of a Test match. Rishabh became the second player to achieve this feat, scoring 118 against England on the fourth day of the Headingley Test, following his 134 in the first innings. Former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Andy Flower was the first to accomplish this, with scores of 141 and 199* against South Africa in Harare in 2001.

Rishabh Pant has made history as the first Indian batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test match in England. He is only the ninth visiting batter to achieve this milestone and the first since Steven Smith in 2019. In total, there were five centuries for India in the Headingley Test – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Pant in the first innings, and KL Rahul and Pant in the second. This marks the first occasion that India has recorded five centuries in a Test match.

Following KL Rahul’s remarkable century in the second innings, which provided India with a significant advantage in the first Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Athiya took to Instagram to express her congratulations to her husband. She posted a photo of him celebrating this achievement on the field, with the caption “This one is special” accompanied by a heart emoji.

In the meantime, Suniel expressed his admiration for his son-in-law KL Rahul, stating, “A knock that spoke less, but said everything. Proud of you son @klrahul.” He also shared an image of KL Rahul during the match.

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant achieved contrasting centuries on the fourth day, establishing a target of 371 runs for England to win the first Test at Headingley, Leeds. In response, England faced six overs, scoring 21 runs without loss, which sets the stage for all four possible outcomes on Tuesday, with 90 overs remaining to chase down 350 runs.

This marks KL Rahul’s first Test century in nearly 18 months, with his last century recorded against South Africa during the Centurion Test in December 2023. Of his nine Test hundreds, eight have been scored while opening the batting. Upon reaching this significant milestone, Rahul removed his helmet and basked in the admiration of the Headingley crowd.
