The popular comedian-actor Kapil Sharma’s newly opened Kaps Cafe in Canada’s Surrey has been attacked for the second time in less than a month. In a shocking turn of events, at least 25 rounds were fired by shattering the windows, on Thursday but thankfully, no one was hurt. The first attack took place on July 10 when employees were still inside.
Two criminal groups have claimed responsibility for the attacks – members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). In an audio clip accessed by India Today, Bishnoi gang member Harry Boxer said, “The first and now second firing at Kapil Sharma’s restaurant happened because he had invited Salman Khan to the inauguration on a Netflix show.”
He warned further, “If anyone works with Salman, whether a small-time actor or a small-time director, we will not spare anyone. We will kill them. We will go to any extent necessary to kill them.”
Goldy Dhillon a Bishnoi member wanted in India also posted on social media claiming the attack. Authorities believe he is hiding in Germany.
Salman Khan has been under threat from the Bishnoi gang since being accused of killing a blackbuck in 1998 during the shoot of Hum Saath Saath Hain. The Bishnoi community considers blackbucks sacred. Since an armed attack outside his Mumbai home in April last year, Khan has been under Y+ security.
Sources believe the attacks are meant to intimidate those close to Salman Khan and create fear in Bollywood. Kapil Sharma’s association with Khan and his growing popularity could be reasons behind the targeting. Investigators are also checking if there was any recce near Sharma’s home or sets in Mumbai.
Kaps Cafe has stated they will “stand firm against violence” and remain a welcoming space for the community.
