Liam Payne’s death has shocked fans and music industry alike for months now. The 31-year-old singer had tragically passed away on October 16, after a sudden fall from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Now, five individuals including hotel staffs and a close friend of Liam face in charges connection with his death.
As per the reports in BBC, Argentine authorities have charged the hotel’s manager Gilda Martin and receptionist Esteban Grassi with manslaughter, citing failure to ensure Liam’s safety. Additionally, Liam Payne’s friend Roger Nores has been accused of neglecting his responsibility to provide help to the singer, who was reportedly in a vulnerable state. Two others – waiter Braian Paiz and hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra – are facing more serious charges of supplying drugs which could lead to longer prison sentences if proven guilty.
The investigation revealed that before Liam Payne’s death he had consumed alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant before his fatal fall. Prosecutors ruled out suicide, suggesting Payne might have been unconscious during the fall. This has brought more scrutiny to the role of those charged, particularly the hotel staff who allegedly moved Liam to his room despite his condition.
Judge Laura Bruniard has advanced the case to the next legal stage but the accused can appeal. Meanwhile, two suspects charged with drug supply have been ordered into custody. Payne’s lawyer has contested these allegations, claiming no money was exchanged for drugs.
