Rakhee Gulzar made a memorable return to the silver screen at the recent 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The veteran actor attended the event for the premiere of her film Aamar Boss, selected under the Indian Panorama. Reflecting on her comeback, Rakhee shared her thoughts on cinema, the film’s story and her collaboration with director Shiboprosad Mukherjee.
After years away from the limelight, Rakhee Gulzar explained her decision to return to films. She revealed, “Shibu called me with a script, and I initially said no to acting. But when I heard the story, I felt it was very relatable, especially for senior citizens and working women.” The story, she added, motivated her to say yes because of its strong subject matter.
In Aamar Boss, Rakhee portrays a single mother navigating financial struggles while striving for her son’s betterment. The film also features Shiboprosad Mukherjee as her on-screen son, a character with a “realistic yet bitter” equation with his mother. Rakhee appreciated Shibu’s quiet and polite style of direction, calling it his “biggest plus point.”

The 55th IFFI celebrates cinema with over 180 films from 81 countries. Highlights include tributes to legends like Raj Kapoor and Mohammed Rafi, ensuring a mix of nostalgia and artistry.
