Recognised for her iconic role as Professor Minerva McGonagall of Harry Potter films, veteran lady Dame Maggie Smith passed away on Friday morning, September 27th. The 89 year old’s death announcement was made by one of the family members, knowing which the whole of internet is in deep shock.
As soon as the announcement of her demise was made, the entire nation was in a deep state of shock. King Charles has taken over to the social media to express his grief to the passing away of the Downtown Abbey actress. Releasing a statement, he stated that both him and his wife were deeply saddened to learn about the death of Dame Maggie Smith. “As the curtain comes down on a national treasure, we join all those around the world in remembering with the fondest admiration and affection her many great performances, and her warmth and wit that shone through both off and on the stage’, the statement read further.

The UK Monarch also shared a picture where he can be seen talking to Maggie Smith at the Pride Of Britain awards at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. The pic is reported to be from 2016 and was shared by him in an expression of tribute.

Hollywood Stars Mourns The Death Of Dame Maggie Smith
Besides, the UK king, many celebs like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Whoopi Goldberg and other team members also mourned the death of Smith. Whoopi, one of Smith’s co-star said, Maggie Smith was a great woman and a brilliant actress, sharing a picture with her together. Emma Watson, saddened by the grief shared a picture on her instagram story mentioning the 89 year old. She called Smith as a woman Emma was fortunate enough to share space with.
The 7 times Bafta award winner, Smith was loved for her role in Harry Potter and was very famous for her pointed witch’s hat and stern behaviour towards the young wizards at Hogwarts. The British actress has also worked in Downtown Abbey and is widely known for her striking performance in the same.
Her sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin announced the news that read, “It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September. An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother. They thanked “the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days”.
