How to Apply for GATE 2027?

Candidates can apply for GATE 2027 only through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) on the official website. Follow the step-by-step process below.

Step 1: Visit the official GATE 2027 website and access GOAPS. Step 2: Register using a valid email ID and mobile number, and provide live facial details. Step 3: Log in and fill in personal, academic, and category details. Step 4: Choose the test paper(s) — one, or two from the approved combinations. Step 5: Choose up to three examination city preferences from the same GATE zone. Step 6: Upload photograph, signature, and photo ID (Aadhaar-UID/Aadhaar Virtual ID/Passport/PAN/Voter ID/Driving Licence), along with SC/ST/PwD/Dyslexia certificates wherever applicable. Step 7: Pay the application fee online through the available payment methods. Step 8: Check all the entered details carefully before submitting the application form. Step 9: Submit the application and keep the confirmation page for future reference.

GATE 2027 Application Fee

Candidates must pay the application fee online while submitting the GATE 2027 application form. The fee is charged per test paper — for two papers, the fee payable is twice that of a single paper (exclusive of bank service/processing charges).

GATE 2027 Eligibility

Candidates must meet the educational eligibility criteria before filling the GATE 2027 application.

  • A candidate currently studying in the 3rd or higher year of any undergraduate degree program, OR who has already completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities, is eligible to appear.
  • A candidate currently studying in the 5th/6th/7th or higher semester, or who has already completed an M.B.B.S./B.D.S./B.V.Sc./B.Sc. (Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry) degree, is also eligible.
  • Candidates holding certification from recognized professional societies (such as the Institution of Engineers (India), Institution of Civil Engineers, IETE, Aeronautical Society of India, IIChE, IIM, and IIIE) are eligible provided the certification is approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning.
  • Candidates pursuing or holding a qualifying degree from outside India must be in the 3rd or higher year, or must have completed a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years’ duration in a relevant discipline.
  • There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.

Marking Scheme:

  • Questions carry either 1 mark or 2 marks each.
  • Negative marking applies only to MCQs: 1/3 mark deducted for a wrong 1-mark MCQ, and 2/3 mark deducted for a wrong 2-mark MCQ.
  • There is no negative marking for MSQ or NAT questions, and no partial marking for any question.
  • PwD candidates are eligible for compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour.

GATE-qualified candidates can seek admission, with possible financial assistance, to Master’s and Direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture, and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Humanities at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education. GATE scores are also used by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) — including AAI, BHEL, BSNL, CIL, GAIL, IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, POWERGRID, SAIL, and others — in their recruitment processes, as well as for direct recruitment to select Group-A posts in the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India.
