Step 1: First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA)
The process begins as usual. Based on candidates’ performance in the exam and the preferences they submitted, the SSC will publish a First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA). This is not the final result but an initial list of which candidates are tentatively allotted which posts.

Step 2: Identity Verification (IV) and the ‘Fix or Float’ Choice
This is the most critical new step. Candidates in the FRTA must visit their respective Regional Director (RD) office of the SSC within a 10-day window for Identity Verification (IV) through Aadhaar authentication. During this visit, they must make a pivotal choice between two options:

  • FIX Option: By choosing ‘FIX’, a candidate accepts the tentatively allotted post as their final selection. They will not be considered for any other post in this cycle. This option is for candidates who are satisfied with their current allotment and want to secure it immediately.
  • FLOAT Option: By choosing ‘FLOAT’, a candidate indicates their willingness to be considered for upgradation to a higher-preferred post. They are essentially keeping their application active for the next round. If a vacancy opens up in a post they had ranked higher in their initial preferences, they could be “slid” into that role.

Important: Failure to appear for IV within this window will result in the candidate being marked ‘Absent’, and they will be removed from the selection process entirely.

Step 3: The Single Sliding Round
After the IV window closes, SSC will identify all vacancies that have become available due to:

  1. Candidates who were absent for the IV.
  2. Candidates who chose the ‘FIX’ option for their allotted post (thereby vacating their previous position, if any, in the sliding process).

SSC will then conduct a single sliding round. In this round, only the candidates who opted for ‘FLOAT’ will be considered. They will be reallocated to any newly available, higher-preferred posts strictly based on their merit rank and the preferences they originally submitted.

Step 4: Final Result and Appointment
Once the sliding round is complete, SSC will publish an updated final result. This final allotment is binding. E-dossiers for all finally selected candidates will be sent to the respective User Departments for the final stages of Document Verification and appointment formalities.
