After Police Complaint, Ranveer Singh Clarifies & Apologises For Kantara Mimicry: "I Know How Much It Would..."

Sometimes all it takes is a few seconds of a video to turn a cheerful moment into a storm and that is exactly what happened with Ranveer Singh at the IFFI 2025 closing ceremony. After facing heavy criticism for mimicking Rishab Shetty’s Daiva act from popular film franchise Kantara the actor Ranveer Singh has finally addressed the situation in his own words through an Instagram story on Tuesday morning.

Ranveer shared a brief but clear message, writing, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.”

He added, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

What began as online backlash soon moved into the legal space. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) filed an official complaint, stating that Ranveer had “insulted Goddess Chamundadevi by describing the deity in a derogatory manner.” Members Pramod Tuyekar and Dilip Shetye requested action under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and asked IFFI to implement a code of conduct to prevent such incidents and they also insisted that protests must stay peaceful and lawful.

Meanwhile, social media exploded with #ShameOnYouRanveerSingh trending on X (formerly Twitter). Many users reacted to a short, out-of-context clip that made it seem like he had mocked Rishab. But the full footage told a different story. Ranveer Singh was seen praising the actor’s dedication for Kantara films and even expressed his wish to collaborate someday. He highlighted Rishab’s raw approach and the “soul of the story” his filmmaking carries.

As complete videos surfaced, more voices stepped in to correct the misunderstanding. With his apology now public, Ranveer hopes to bring calm and remind people of his original intention was appreciation, not disrespect.

Meanwhile, Ranveer is set to take silver screens by storm with his versatile portrayal through ‘Dhurandhar’ set to release on December 5, 2025 which is a fictional spy thriller inspired by various true events but is not based on Major Mohit Sharma’s life.
