As separation rumours around Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai continue to do the rounds, the actor recently reflected on the earliest days of their connection during an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit. While celebrating his 25 years in the film industry, Abhishek took a moment to share how he first met Aishwarya in the late 1990s – long before they became one of Bollywood’s most adored couples.
Turning back in time, when Abhishek was assisting on his father Amitabh Bachchan’s film Mrityudaata and was sent to Switzerland for a location recce. He revealed, “My mother sent me because I had studied in Switzerland and knew the place well.” And during that trip, Abhishek happened to visit the set of Bobby Deol’s film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya in which being the leading lady, Aishwarya was also shooting. “It was at Zanin train station. That was the first time I saw her in person. Later, Bobby invited me to their hotel for dinner, and that’s where we actually met,” he recalled.
Further added with a laugh saying, “Aishwarya tells me she couldn’t understand a word I said because of my British boarding school accent.”
Later in the conversation, Abhishek shared heartfelt praise for how Aishwarya as mother has raised their daughter Aaradhya who is now 13. “I have to give the credit of that entirely to her mother,” he said. “I get to go out and make my movies, and Aishwarya does the heavy lifting with Aaradhya. She’s amazing. And selfless.”
Despite the growing buzz, neither Abhishek nor Aishwarya have made any public comment on their relationship status. They’ve neither confirmed nor denied anything but Abhishek’s warm recollections and admiration for his wife hint at continued respect and understanding; and showcase the bond they share is not easily defined by such speculations.
