Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap, one of Indian badminton’s most loved couples have officially announced their separation. On Sunday night, Saina Nehwal took to her Instagram story and shared an emotional note on stating they have decided to part ways after much thought.
She wrote, “Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing—for ourselves and each other. I’m grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time.”
Saina Nehwal & Parupalli Kashyap – How It All Began?
Their story goes back to 1997, when Saina and Parupalli first met at a training camp. Both young talents with bright futures ahead, as per the reports, they started dating in 2005 while training together under coach Pullela Gopichand in Hyderabad.
Despite being in the spotlight, they kept their relationship private due to their professional commitments and kept focusing on their careers. But they didn’t give up and over the years, Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap continued to support one another from injuries, wins to their setbacks – they’ve been together every thick and thin.
In an interview with Hindustan Times during Valentine’s 2025, talking about their early dating challenges Parupalli shared, “We started dating in 2005. She was my first girlfriend. So initially, I was terrified of how I felt (about her). Back then, it was considered wrong to get into a relationship… it becomes challenging when you doubt yourself.”
Also Saina opened up about how their bond started saying, “We were in the Indian team, travelling together for all tournaments, and that’s when we started helping and supporting each other during training sessions and matches. That’s when we started liking each other.”

Although the news of their separation shocked many, the way Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap chose to handle it with dignity and calm reflects the strength of their bond even in parting. Their journey reminds us that even the strongest relationships require space and growth.
