Starting with the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor, who laid the foundation,and then the family legacy was carried forward by his sons – Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. The torch was later passed on to the next generation with Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, and now, Ranbir Kapoor continues to rule the current Bollywood era with his unmatched stardom, who is hailed as current Bollywood Superstar!
In a rare and exclusive throwback interview with Lehren, Rajiv Kapoor – the son of the legendary Raj Kapoor opened up about what it feels like to be born into such a monumental family. While talking about his great-grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor’s acting brilliance and his father’s cinematic genius, he also expressed the pride of being part of the Kapoor legacy, not just as a family member but also as someone who grew up witnessing this giant legacy from close quarters.
Rajiv Kapoor who was fondly called Chimpu Ji, admitted that his journey had a biggest challenge of sharing a striking resemblance to his iconic uncle Shammi Kapoor. Due to which many directors, technicians, choreographers and even makeup artists tried to mold him into Shammi’s image, leaving little space for him to develop his own style. Later he challenged himself by creating his unique identity on screen, not just as an actor but also as a director.
In the same interview, Rajiv Kapoor also shared his admiration for the works of his father Raj Kapoor, calling every film he directed or acted in is brilliant in its own way; further cherishing memory of closely working with him on Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985). Not stopping there, he also expressed how proud he was of his nephew Ranbir Kapoor and nieces Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor. He called them perfect torchbearers who are gracefully carrying forward the Kapoor legacy into modern Bollywood.
