Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has recently commented on the controversy regarding Deepika Padukone’s alleged withdrawal from his forthcoming film Spirit, which features Prabhas. Although the official reasons for Padukone’s exit have not been verified, there is speculation that her unease with the film’s explicit material, including scenes rated A, could have contributed to her decision.

In a direct message on Twitter, Vanga expressed his disapproval of an unnamed actress—thought to be Padukone—for participating in “unethical PR tactics” following her departure. He accused her of trying to sabotage the film and implied that her behavior exposed her true nature.
Shortly after Vanga posted his remarks, a portion of X users supported his perspective, while others defended Deepika’s right to negotiate. Neither Deepika nor her team has responded to the ongoing controversy thus far.
A source informed the portal, “While the narrative of Spirit is that of a classic Telugu entertainer, which includes all the heroic moments, the director is introducing a twist to the genre by incorporating an ‘A-Rated’ element. In addition to the significant bloodshed in the action sequences, Spirit will also feature numerous bold scenes with the two main characters.”
Following Padukone’s exit, actress Triptii Dimri has been officially announced as the female lead in Spirit, having reportedly accepted a remuneration of ₹4 crore, which is considerably less than the ₹20 crore that Padukone was said to have requested.
The film has also garnered attention for its A (Adults Only) classification, which is due to its intense and mature themes, including explicit scenes featuring the lead actors.
This situation contributes to the ongoing debates regarding the nature of content in modern Indian cinema and the relationships between filmmakers and actors.
It has been reported that the film has already experienced several delays, initially because of Deepika’s pregnancy and maternity leave, and subsequently due to Prabhas’ injury and his busy shooting schedule.
