Vidya Balan has paid a beautiful tribute to the legendary musician M.S. Subbulakshmi on her 108th birth anniversary. M.S. Subbulakshmi, whose full name is Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi, remains one of the most iconic figures in Indian classical music. She was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. To celebrate this special occasion, Vidya Balan recreated the iconic look of M.S. Subbulakshmi, capturing the essence of the legendary musician. Taking to Instagram, Vidya shared a reel showcasing her stunning transformation. She expressed her long-held desire to play M.S. Subbulakshmi and how deeply honoured she felt to pay this tribute. In her heartfelt caption, Vidya referred to M.S. Subbulakshmi as the ‘Queen of Music’, a title famously given to her by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Vidya also highlighted how Sarojini Naidu referred to her as the ‘Nightingale of India’. The transformation was not just about her look, but also a reflection of M.S. Subbulakshmi’s simplicity, grace and charm.

Vidya Balan’s recreation of M.S. Subbulakshmi’s persona included four iconic sarees that the musician wore and popularized between the 1960s and 1980s. Vidya acknowledged that half of M.S. Subbulakshmi’s appearance was her rich and vibrant sarees, while the other half was her simple accessories. This included her distinctive two nose pins, jasmine flowers adorning her hair and the traditional kumkum on her forehead.

Also, Vidya Balan gave special thanks to costume designer Anu Parthasarathy, who helped bring M.S. Subbulakshmi’s signature look to life. She also expressed gratitude to Sikkil Mala Chandrasekhar, the great-granddaughter of M.S. Subbulakshmi and a renowned flautist, for her invaluable guidance and insights during this transformation.

Interestingly, rumours had surfaced a few months ago that Tamil actresses Nayanthara or Trisha Krishnan would play the role of M.S. Subbulakshmi in her biopic. However, Vidya’s tribute has now sparked speculation among fans. Many are wondering if Vidya Balan might be cast in the much-anticipated biopic, as her resemblance to the legendary musician was striking. Fans flooded the comment section of her Instagram post, expressing their hope that she would be chosen for the role.
