This is starting to look like a trend: Expedia Group, the Seattle-based online travel giant, has told employees that it’s delaying a full return to the office until early next year.

Expedia’s decision follows a similar announcement from Amazon last week. Microsoft, Google, Apple and others have also delayed their returns to the office, but on a shorter timeframe, for now. October is the more common target currently for many in the industry.

“Due to evolving circumstances related to COVID-19, we are now targeting a broad return to the office on a hybrid basis in January 2022, dependent on guidance from local governments and health authorities,” Expedia said in a statement. “The well-being of our people is our priority, and we look forward to reuniting our global employee community when it is safe to do so.”

In the meantime, the company says its offices are open for those who are able to come in, “while maintaining flexibility and appropriate safety standards.

Expedia Group includes travel brands such as vrbo, Orbitz, Hotwire, Trivago, Hotels.com, and Egencia in addition to the flagship Expedia.com. The company moved to a spacious headquarters on the downtown Seattle waterfront from its longtime home in downtown Bellevue, Wash., in 2019.
