In a tragic turn of events, renowned film editor Nishadh Yusuf, known for his work in both the Malayalam and Tamil film industries has been found dead in his Kochi apartment. The shocking news broke just two weeks ahead of the release of his much-anticipated pan-Indian project Kanguva, scheduled to hit theaters on November 14, 2024. This untimely loss has sent waves of grief through his fans and colleagues, with the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) confirming his passing.
According to a PTI report, Nishadh Yusuf, aged 43 was discovered in his Panampilly Nagar residence around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. Early investigations by local police suggest that the editor’s death may have been a case of suicide, though officials have yet to disclose additional information. Authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation to better understand the circumstances surrounding his death.
This loss marks the second tragedy for the Kanguva team in just over a year. In October 2023, production designer Milan Fernandez died from a heart attack at age 54. His passing left a significant void in the project and now, the unexpected death of Nishadh Yusuf deepens the sorrow felt by the Kanguva cast and crew.
FEFKA paid tribute to Nishadh Yusuf by confirming the news of his passing on its official Facebook page, sharing a heartfelt message with a photo of the editor. “The unexpected demise of Nishadh Yusuf, a film editor who has shaped the modern landscape of Malayalam cinema, is an immeasurable loss. Condolences from FEFKA Directors’ Union,” the message read.
Nishadh Yusuf’s exceptional work was highly-praised in Malayalam cinema, especially for Thallumaala, a film that earned him the prestigious Kerala State Award. He was currenlty working on projects like Bazooka, featuring Mollywood legend Mohanlal, as well as Alappuzha Gymkhana. Known for acclaimed Malayalam films like Unda, Adios Amigos, One and Saudi Vellakka, Nishadh was celebrated for his unique editing skills and dedication to storytelling.
In the wake of his passing, fans have been mourning on social media, particularly reacting to photos posted by Nishadh just days before with the Kanguva cast, which have since gone viral. His legacy and contributions to cinema will be remembered with profound respect.
