The streaming television services are running away from the rest of the broadcast pack once again as nominations were announced Tuesday for the 73rd Emmy Awards.
HBO and its new streaming platform HBO Max led all contenders with 130 nominations. “Hacks” was the most nominated series on HBO Max, with 15 nods.
Netflix was close behind with 129 nominations. “The Crown” tied with the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” for the most nominated show, with 24.
Amazon Prime Video landed 20 nominations, including its first-ever nod for a drama series. The superhero show “The Boys,” which received five nominations, is up against “The Crown,” “The Mandalorian,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Bridgerton,” “Pose,” “Lovecraft Country,” and “This Is Us.”
Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” made TV history in 2017 as the first streaming series to win a best drama Emmy. No streamer has matched that accomplishment since.
