Shahid Kapoor’s O’Romeo Release In Trouble? Film Faces ₹2 Crore Legal Demand

Just when fans felt Shahid Kapoor was back in his strongest zone with a dark and intense role, Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film O’Romeo has found itself at the centre of controversy. The teaser released on January 10, received strong praise for its raw tone, Shahid’s fierce screen presence and Bhardwaj’s signature storytelling. However, days later, the film is facing a legal trouble now.

Legal Notice Sent by Hussain Ustara’s Daughter

Sanober Shaikh, daughter of late Mumbai gangster Hussain Shaikh also known as Hussain Ustara, has reportedly sent a legal notice to the makers of O’Romeo. The notice has been addressed to producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj, raising objections over the film’s alleged portrayal of her father.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The letter has been addressed to producer Sajid Nadiadwala of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and director Vishal Bhardwaj last week. It claims that O’Romeo probably shows Hussain Ustara in a bad light, thereby impacting the family’s reputation. Hence, she has asked for ₹2 crores for the same.”

The source added, “Along with the monetary demand, Sanober has also reportedly requested the makers to halt or cancel the film’s release until her concerns are addressed to her satisfaction.”

O’Romeo Inspired by True Events?

While the makers have not officially confirmed that O’Romeo is based on real-life figures, the teaser mentions that the film is inspired by true events. Rumours suggest Shahid Kapoor’s character draws inspiration from Hussain Ustara, who was known for his rivalry with Dawood Ibrahim.

O’Romeo stars Shahid Kapoor alongside Triptii Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Vikrant Massey, Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani and Farida Jalal. The film is currently scheduled to release in theatres on February 13, with the makers yet to respond to the legal notice.
