For over a decade, Deepika Padukone has been one of Bollywood’s most admired female stars who is known not only for her onscreen aura but also for her strong stance offscreen on mental health and work-life balance. Recently, her call for an 8-hour work shift created waves in the film industry and online especially after reports surfaced that filmmakers Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Nag Ashwin were unhappy with her various demand. Deepika who was already a part of Kalki 2898 AD and reportedly signed for Vanga’s Spirit also for Kalki’s part 2, is no longer part of both films.
Amid this growing buzz, the actress finally addressed the issue in recent convresation, indirectly responding to those who opposed her stance. In an interview with Brut India, Deepika opened up about the challenges of being a woman in the industry and the criticism she faces for asserting her boundaries.

When asked if she’s often labeled “too difficult” for speaking up, Deepika responded candidly saying,“I don’t think what I’m asking for is ridiculously unfair. Only someone who has worked in the system long enough would know the conditions we work in. I say this as a top star, so you can only imagine what it must be like for the crew.”
She further pointed out the existing double standards in the industry where male actors have long enjoyed limited-hour schedules without any public debate. “I’m not the first one to ask for something like this. There are many actors, male actors, who’ve been working on an 8-hour shift for years, and it’s never made headlines,” she said. When the interviewer asked if the backlash stemmed from gender bias, Deepika laughed and said, “I wouldn’t know if it’s a gender thing or not. But what I can definitely say is that what I’m advocating for is a better work-life balance and better working conditions.”
Further dropping a clear message she concluded with, “If that doesn’t work for somebody, we’re not obligated to work with each other.” Deepika Padukone’s reply comes amid her growing buzz with Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Kalki 2898 AD makers. And whether it’s about setting healthy boundaries or challenging the norms, Deepika’s voice continues to inspire others to prioritize balance and well-being at work
While she has walked out of Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, Deepika is already shooting for King alongside her long-time co-star Shah Rukh Khan. She’s also set to appear in Atlee’s untitled sci-fi film with Allu Arjun, one of her most anticipated projects.
