Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer best known for his unforgettable portrayal of greater Karna in filmmaker B.R. Chopra’s epic ‘Mahabharat’ passed away on October 15, 2025 at the age of 68. The actor had been reportedly battling cancer for a longtime now, which sadly relapsed a few months ago despite undergoing major surgery.
The news of his passing was confirmed by his close friend and CINTAA member Amit Behl, followed by an official statement from the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association and the statement expressed deep sorrow and announced that his cremation would take place in Mumbai’s Vile Parle (W) area.
Pankaj Dheer became a household name with his powerful performance as Karna in the 1988 television iconic mythological TV series Mahabharat, as his character not only brought him nationwide fame but also turned him into a cultural icon across generations, even getting featured in textbooks and temples featured his image as Karna.
Apart from Mahabharat, actor Pankaj Dheer also worked in several Hindi films such as Sanam Bewafa, Baadshah, Tumko Na Bhool Payenge, Zameen and many more. He also left his mark on television with shows like Chandrakanta, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, Sasural Simar Ka and more
His rich contribution goes beyond acting, Pankaj Dheer also directed films including My Father Godfather, and founded the Abhinay Acting Academy, helping nurture new talent in the industry.
Veteran star is survived by his wife Anita Dheer and son Nikitin Dheer, who continues his father’s legacy in cinema.
