Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal made headlines earlier this year when he attended the final divorce hearing with his ex-wife Dhanashree Verma wearing a black T-shirt that read “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy.” The bold statement grabbed attention across social media, sparking discussions and memes. Now, Dhanashree has finally spoken out about the moment and the emotions she went through that day.
Speaking to Humans of Bombay in a recent podcast, Dhanashree recalled how she broke down inside the courtroom when the verdict was about to be delivered. She said, “I still remember when I was standing there and the verdict was about to be given. Even though we were so well-prepared mentally, I got so emotional. I started howling in front of everybody. I couldn’t even express what I was feeling at that point. I just remember that I just kept crying, I was just howling and crying. Of course! All of that happened, and he (Chahal) walked out first.”
The viral “T-shirt stunt” by Chahal also became a talking point. Dhanashree admitted she was surprised and slightly taken aback by it. Sharing her thoughts, she said, “You know that people are going to blame you. Before I had even known that this T-shirt stunt had happened, we were all aware that people were going to blame me for this. Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyun pehna hai?”
Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma tied the knot in December 2020 in Gurugram. However, after months of living separately, the couple filed for divorce in February 2025. Their divorce was finalized in March 2025 with reports suggesting that Chahal paid ₹4.75 crore as alimony. While Chahal has already shared his version of the story in earlier interviews, Dhanashree’s side reflects the emotional turmoil and the public scrutiny she faced during the process.
