Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis recently revealed that she’s been slowly preparing to step away from Hollywood. In a heartfelt interview with The Guardian, the 66-year-old star shared how watching her legendary parents Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis get “rejected” by the film industry which deeply impacted her perspective on aging and fame.
“I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood when the industry rejected them at a certain age,” the Freakier Friday actress shared. “I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone. And that’s very painful”.
Jamie Lee Curtis further admitted that she’s been “self-retiring for 30 years”. She explained “I have been have been prepping to get out, so that I don’t have to suffer the same as my family did. I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited.”
Though she continues to act, Jamie is clearly setting her own timeline for bowing out of the spotlight.
Curtis is currently reprising her role as Tess Coleman in Freakier Friday, a sequel of the 2003’s hit fantasy comedy film. As she’s now getting into the shoes of grandmother, Curtis says this role brought its own challenges especially the pressure to maintain a polished appearance.
Despite her reflections on retirement, Curtis isn’t leaving just yet. With upcoming roles and producing credits, she’s making sure to close this chapter on her own terms.
