Kapil Sharma’s New Café in Canada Attacked in Shooting Linked to Khalistani Extremist

Kapil Sharma’s recently inaugurated café in Surrey, Canada, became the target of a shooting event on Thursday. A minimum of nine shots were fired at Kap’s Café by an individual in a car, resulting in a shattered window. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi, associated with Babbar Khalsa International and sought by India’s NIA, has taken responsibility for the incident. Laddi was allegedly provoked by a previous comment made by the comedian. The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation.

The Surrey Police Service responded in the early hours of July 10 (approximately 1:50 am), discovered bullet casings, and initiated a review of CCTV footage while canvassing witnesses. Investigators are currently evaluating whether this incident is linked to a broader terror-extortion network that is targeting public figures of Indian descent abroad. This incident marks the latest in a series of cross-border extremist activities associated with Khalistani-linked groups in Canada, with similar occurrences including shootings near the residences of Gippy Grewal and A.P. Dhillon.

In the 2024 security report from Canada, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) cautioned that Khalistani extremists were plotting acts of violence in India from Canadian territory. The timing of the attack coincides with the rising international prominence of Kapil Sharma, whose Netflix Season 3 debuted on June 21, thereby increasing his global visibility.

The Surrey Police, in collaboration with Canadian and Indian agencies, are conducting forensic analyses, searching for suspects, and evaluating communications. As of now, no arrests have been made. Kapil Sharma and Kap’s Café have issued a statement reaffirming their resilience and dedication to peace, asserting that they will not yield to violence.
