Dhanush Ignored By His Own Tamil Fans? ‘Kuberaa’ Struggles At The Tamil Nadu Box Office

It’s surprising news for many as Dhanush and his Tamil fans – known for their strong bond, seem to have drifted apart when it comes to the actor’s latest film Kuberaa. The film directed by Sekhar Kammula, has been widely praised for Dhanush’s incredible performance as Deva, who has shouldered up an entire 3-hour film as a beggar whose life takes a dramatic turn. But while Kuberaa is performing extremely well in Telugu states, the film is underperforming in Dhanush’s home ground of Tamil Nadu.

Dhanush ‘s ‘Kuberaa’ Fails To Strike his Tamil Nadu Fans?

In just six days, Kuberaa crossed ₹33 crore in Telugu-speaking regions and crossed an epic ₹100 crore mark worldwide. However, in Tamil Nadu it has only managed to collect around ₹18 crore. This gap has come in as a surprise, especially since Dhanush enjoys a massive fanbase in Tamil Nadu and has already delivered powerful performances in hard-hitting social dramas like Asuran, Karnan and more, all of which were big hits.

The reasons for this lack of enthusiasm from Dhanush ‘s Tamil fans remain unclear. The makers expected that the local audience would turn up in large numbers, especially considering their past support for similar genre films. Despite having all the right ingredients – strong storytelling, a lead actor with mass appeal and the backing of a respected filmmaker – the film still hasn’t taken off as expected in Tamil Nadu.

Megastar Chiranjeevi Praise Dhanush’s Outstanding Talent

Interestingly, the film has found massive love in the Telugu industry. Even Megastar Chiranjeevi praised Dhanush’s performance and questioned the value of awards like National Awards if Dhanush doesn’t win Best Actor for Kuberaa. That kind of support shows the kind of impact the film has made outside Tamil Nadu.

Director Sekhar Kammula, known for his sensitive and emotional storytelling in Telugu cinema, has once again connected deeply with Telugu audiences. His previous works like Anand, Godavari, Fidaa etc have built a loyal fanbase which has only grown stronger with Kuberaa.

Kuberaa also features Nagarjuna Akkineni, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, Dalip Tahil among others. The story follows a beggar who undergoes a life-changing journey, touching on themes like greed, ambition and redemption.

While the Telugu audience continues to celebrate Kuberaa, the lukewarm response from Dhanush’s Tamil fans has left many puzzled. Whether the film picks up in the coming days in Tamil Nadu is yet to be seen, but what’s clear is that Dhanush’s exceptional performance has already made a strong impact where it matters most – on screen!
