The 90s Bollywood era saw many leading actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Kajol and many more. Among them was Sheeba Agarwal aka Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir also stood high , who was launched by none other than veteran actor-politician Sunil Dutt in Yeh Aag Kab Bujhegi (1991). However, despite her grand launch, she wasn’t casted in any of his future projects. Recently, Sheeba opened up about how she got the role and why Sunil Dutt didn’t want her to sign other films.
Sheeba Agarwal on Sunil Dutt ‘s Protective Nature
In the recent exclusive interview with Lehren Retro, Sheeba was asked if she felt shortchanged by Sunil Dutt since he didn’t let her take on other films. She responded with a laugh saying, “Ya, he was possessive about me”. She explained that coming from a non-film background, she didn’t fully understand the industry dynamics at the time. She initially thought Sunil Dutt was just being extra protective but later realized it affected her career prospects. Further Sheeba also admitted that not having a mentor or any film connections made things harder for her. While she now understands how it impacted her journey but she’s grateful for everything Sunil Dutt did for her. She learned a lot from him and holds no grudge against him – she clarified.
While Sheeba was shooting for Yeh Aag Kab Bujhegi, she then signed her Tamil debut film Athisaya Piravi alongside Rajinikanth. However, when her Tamil film was completed first, Sunil Dutt didn’t want it to release before his film. This led to a major disagreement between Athisaya Piravi film producer Poorna Chandra Rao and Sunil Dutt.
