The In Memoriam segment of the Oscars 2025 included notable industry figures such as Gene Hackman, Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones, Donald Sutherland, David Lynch, Gene Rowlands and more. However, many were surprised that other notable actors like Olivia Hussey, Tony Todd, Michelle Trachtenberg, Bernard Hill, Shannen Doherty and more were visibly left out. Particularly, Michelle Trachtenberg’s exclusion stood out as she passed away just days before the ceremony. Taking to the X platform, one fan expressed frustration writing, “The Oscars not honoring Michelle Trachtenberg in the In Memoriam is absolutely disgusting.”
While another commented, “Huge snub not including Olivia Hussey in the memoriam. #Oscars” Additionally, Tony Todd’s omission also sparked debate, especially among horror fans. One user posted, “HOW COULD THEY NOT EVEN MENTION TONY TODD IN OSCAR’S MEMORIAM????” Another wrote, “Livid doesn’t cover it. Rest in peace, king. #Oscars”

The Oscars have a history of leaving out notable names due to time constraints, leading to frequent online debates. As per Variety, every year, a few entertainers are omitted and the Academy has limited time to feature every name. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from voicing their frustrations. One user tweeted, “No Michelle Trachtenberg? No Shannen Doherty? No Tony Todd? I’m SICK. #Oscars2025”
