Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar caught the spotlight once again after the troller controversy. He recently came forward to support Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami who was judged tight by the public for not fasting during Ramazan. The cricketer who was caught drinking water during one of the matches was criticised by a bunch of people who questioned his religious beliefs and cultural calling. Javed on the same poured in his views and wrota message in Shami’s support.

In a new X post, Javed Akhtar addresssed Shami and wrote, “Shami saheb , don’t give a damn to those reactionary bigoted idiots who have any problem with your drinking water in a burning afternoon at a cricket field in Dubai. It is none of their business. You are one of the great Indian team that is making us all proud My best wishes to you and our whole team.“

While the post caught attention from different people and numerous comments flooded in as a reaction, Javed Akhtar’s cousin named Mumtaz too came out in the cricketer’s support. She said that Mohammad Shami has been representing the nation widely, and it is disgraceful to see such thoughts being circulated about him.
Why Is Mohammad Shami Into Controversy?
Meanwhile, the controversy began after The All India Muslim Jamaat president labeled Mohammed Shami “a criminal” for not fasting during Ramzan. As he reported to ANI, he mentioned that what Shami is doing is against the religious laws. “By not keeping ‘Roza,’ he has committed a crime. He should not do this. In the eyes of Shariat, he is a criminal. He will have to answer God,” he remarked further. Post this, many came into his support, while others added more fuel to the ongoing controversy calling out Shami.
Recently, Javed Akhtar made headlines after a troller unnecesarily accused him of fat shaming Rohit Sharma, while he just posted a congratulatory tweet for team India’s win. Akhtar is always up and above with his witty replies, and he chose to continue the same this one time too.
