Felicity Jones has received an Academy Award nomination this year for her role in The Brutalist. Notably, her character only appears in the second half of the 3-hour and 35-minute film, which likely earned her a spot in the Best Supporting Actress category. Felicity explained that this limited screen time was a narrative choice aimed at making the audience feel the weight of the waiting. This aspect of the story is what initially attracted her to the project.
“What I liked about the script is that there’s this immense wait for the characters to be united. They haven’t seen each other for eight years. The romance is heightened during their reunion,” Felicity shared. She further added, “What’s wonderful is that their reconnection is quite complex and challenging, especially during those very intimate scenes.”
In The Brutalist, Felicity Jones portrays Erzsébet Tóth, the wife of László Tóth (played by Adrien), a Holocaust survivor who flees to America to escape a concentration camp. Erzsébet is left behind but eventually follows her husband. When she arrives in America, she reunites with László, and they must confront the emotional scars created by time, trauma, and displacement. The film is set to be released in cinemas on February 28th.
