In a distressing incident, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked with a knife during a robbery attempt at his Bandra home in Mumbai early Thursday morning. The actor who lives with his wife Kareena Kapoor and their two little sons Taimur and Jeh, was quickly rushed to Lilavati Hospital for immediate treatment. According to police reports, the attack occurred around 2:30 AM when an intruder broke into their residence.
Saif Ali Khan Suffered Severe Injuries
The suspect who is yet to be identified, reportedly confronted Saif Ali Khan which led to a physical fight during which the actor sustained multiple injuries. Speaking to the media and as per the reports stated in India Today, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam confirmed “An unidentified person intruded into the residence of actor Saif Ali Khan. The actor and the intruder fought. The actor was injured and is being treated. An investigation is ongoing.”
Extent of Injuries Revealed
Adding on, Dr. Niraj Uttamani the COO of Lilavati Hospital, shared crucial details about Saif’s condition who explained “Saif was attacked by an unidentified person in his house. He was brought in at 3:30 AM. He has six injuries, two of which are deeper. One of the injuries is closer to his spine. We are operating on him”.
The actor’s surgery, led by a team including neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leena Jain and anaesthetist Dr. Nisha Gandhi, started at 5:30 AM and was still in progress at the time of the update. The hospital revealed that another injury on his neck was also being evaluated.
Police Investigation Underway
The Bandra police have now registered an FIR and formed multiple teams to locate the suspect. A senior IPS officer overseeing the case stated, “It is unclear whether the injuries occurred during the scuffle or if Saif Ali Khan was directly stabbed. The Mumbai Crime Branch is also conducting a parallel investigation.”
The actor’s team released a statement addressing the incident, “There was an attempted burglary at Mr Saif Ali Khans residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation.“
