After her recent wedding to long-time partner Antony Thattil on December 12, 2024, Keerthy Suresh has become the talk of the town for more reasons than one. Not only did the actress make headlines for her beautiful Goa wedding, but she also stirred up conversations during the promotions of her Bollywood debut movie Baby John. A major topic of discussion was Keerthy’s decision to continue wearing her Mangalsutra (sacred wedding thread), while many chose to not wear it. In her latest interview, Keerthy Suresh opens up for the first time after marriage with her longtime beau and revealed the reason behind her choice to wear the Mangalsutra during the promotions, explaining that it holds deep significance.
Speaking to Galatta India, Keerthy revealed, “There’s a reason behind why I am wearing it to every promotion because we are not supposed to remove the sacred thread. You are not supposed to remove it until a certain date, so basically, you change it to a gold chain after a few days.” She added, “I think if you had an auspicious date in a week or 10 days, I would have changed to the gold chain. But I don’t think we found an auspicious date, and the date is towards the end of January.”
In South Indian culture, it’s a tradition that the Mangalsuthram tied during the wedding ceremony is to be replaced by a gold chain on a specific auspicious date. The thread is considered sacred and carries significant spiritual power. As per the ritual, it should touch the chest of the bride symbolizing its importance in her married life. Keerthy shared that she would continue wearing the Mangalsutra until the auspicious date arrives at the end of January.

Keerthy went on to elaborate, “So I will be wearing it till then. Somebody even told me if you don’t want to wear it with your promotional clothes. The reason why it is tied here is also because it should touch your chest.” She expressed how much she values the meaning of this thread and its power, Keerthy Suresh opens up saying, “It is sacred and also supposed to be very powerful. Once you change it to the golden chain, it is going to look normal. Some said that I could even put it inside, but I thought it looked hot! I am happy that I am flaunting it.”
The actress known for her roles in films like Mahanati, Saani Kaayidham and Penguin, also shared a personal insight into her relationship with Antony. Despite her private nature, Keerthy revealed that she and Antony have always kept their personal life away from the public eye. “We both are very private people,” she said. “We’re not the kind of PDA couple. We don’t believe in putting everything on display.”
Keerthy and Antony’s wedding was a very intimate affair, attended by only close friends and family. The couple exchanged vows in a destination wedding in Goa, which saw notable stars like Thalapathy Vijay, Trisha Krishnan, Atlee and his wife Priya, Kalyani Priyadarshan among others, in attendance. Keerthy’s wedding was one of the most talked-about events of 2024, especially considering how low-key they kept the celebrations despite the large number of guests.
