The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma in the lead role, surprised everyone with its box office outcome. It was a huge blockbuster and made earnings that no one would have imagined in their wildest dreams. However, it did face controversies during and after its release. Directed by Sudipto Sen, the film touched on the subject of forceful religious conversions. Before its release, TKS was promoted as a film based on the real story, and it was claimed that such incidents happened in Kerala. However, many claimed it to be false and described the Adah Sharma starrer as political propaganda. Interestingly, such controversies helped TKS in attracting major footfalls.
Now, almost a year after its release, The Kerala Story is back in the headlines, and this time, it has to do with the premiere on Doordarshan. The film was scheduled to be aired on the channel on 5th April. Against the telecast, the chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, objected by calling out Doordarshan.

On X, Vijayan slammed Doordarshan for telecasting The Kerala Story. He also slammed the channel for being a ‘propaganda machine’ of the ruling political party. He wrote, “The decision by @DDNational to broadcast the film ‘The Kerala Story’, which incites polarisation, is highly condemnable. The national news broadcaster should not become a propaganda machine for the BJP-RSS combine and withdraw from screening a film that only seeks to exacerbate communal tensions ahead of the general elections.”
Apart from Kerala CM’s criticism, The Kerala Story’s Doordarshan telecast saw protests from CPI (M) and Congress in Kerala, as per PTI. Also, the leader of the opposition, VD Satheesan, requested to withdraw the film’s release on the national channel.
Satheesan said, “The Kerala Story is a propaganda film based on extremely false premises and attempts to paint a bleak picture of the people of the state.”
Meanwhile, the film did fabulous business at the worldwide box office. It earned 293.15 crores gross globally.
