In the last few years, there have been many comparisons between the Hindi and South film industry. Even though both cinematic worlds have merged quite a few times, the comparisons never stop. Often, Bollywood celebs are asked their view about what’s working for the South and why Hindi films lack the hold at the box office and on the audience like the old days. In the past, Akshay Kumar was also asked the same question, and he gave an interesting answer.

In 2018, when Akshay Kumar was promoting Toilet Ek Prem Katha, he was asked why the success rate of Hindi films was declining. The OMG 2 actor said, “Maybe it has got to do with our content, which is not right.” Akshay called the South Indian film industry systematic and added, “They don’t spend more than Rs 2 crore on publicity. They don’t do reality shows or too many press meets. But like us, they too release big films during Diwali and Pongal. They do reserve those dates. It is not threatening for us, but we can see some new things in cinema. Even our films release in the South, and they have never said that it is a threat. It is just that good films work.”

When his movie Toilet Ek Prem Katha was compared with Prabhas‘ Baahubali 2, Akshay Kumar talked about the difference between the budget of both films. He stated, “How much was spent on Baahubali 2’s making? Over 400 crore? Toilet Ek Prem Katha has been made in Rs 18 crore. Obviously, the returns will be different.”

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Teaser

Meanwhile, it has been two and a half years since Akshay Kumar witnessed box-office success with his movies. His last hit was Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Sooryavanshi (2021). However, things look better for him with his upcoming release, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The film has enough buzz, and it would be interesting to see if things change for him in 2024.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tiger Shroff, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the action thriller will hit the big screen on April 11, 2024. Akshay’s 2024 movie slate also includes Welcome to the Jungle and Singham Again.

Welcome to the Jungle, directed by Ahmed Khan, also stars Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, and others. The film is scheduled to release in December 2024. On the other hand, Rohit Shetty’s Singham 3 aka Singham Again, stars Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor along with Akshay. The cop action-drama will release on August 15, 2024.
