One reason Apple generates billions in sales is by providing its customer base with a software integration of all its products. This strategy actually forces individuals to upgrade to newer machines or devices to experience that ‘ecosystem.’ Unsurprisingly, one report from an analyst states that the company is aiming for the same goal with the Apple Vision Pro, which is why the iPhone 16 series will likely be unveiled with Wi-Fi 7; to improve integration.
The Wi-Fi 7 standard will drive more performance and reduced latency for the iPhone 16 lineup, resulting in improved reliability when connected to the Apple Vision Pro
In this latest tweet, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo talks about the improvement of wireless standards to improve the integration between the Apple Vision Pro. Kuo believes that the technology giant will ‘aggressively’ upgrade the hardware specifications of other products to build a ‘more competitive ecosystem’ for the AR headset. Earlier, Kuo shared that Apple’s investors are more interested in the company’s efforts to build a ChatGPT-like competitor instead of placing resources in a head-mounted wearable.
Naturally, there is a ton riding on Apple, as it needs to prove a viable approach for its Vision Pro business to succeed, otherwise, it might be pressured to allocate fewer resources to this division. One of those approaches will be upgrading the iPhone 16 family with Wi-Fi 7 adapters. Currently, the iPhone 14 series relies on Wi-Fi 6, which has a maximum wireless throughput of 9.6Gbps, while Wi-Fi 7 can go up to a whopping 46Gbps, delivering a wired-like internet experience, though companies are nowhere close to providing bandwidth of this magnitude.

However, the benefits of Wi-Fi 7 are not just limited to increased speeds, as the improved latency should help the Apple Vision Pro and iPhone 16 when both are paired with each other. The Vision Pro also relies on the R1 chipset to reduce latency but paired with other devices through a wireless connection, the internal hardware can only do so much. Kuo also states that an improved hardware integration will mean that the iPhone 15 models will see a specifications upgrade of the UWB (ultrawide band) standard. The manufacturing process should shift from 16nm to 7nm, improving power efficiency and performance when interacting with other products.
Unfortunately, we do not believe the iPhone 15 series will be upgraded to Wi-Fi 7 this year, as Apple takes its sweet time when adopting the latest standards. However, a Wi-Fi 6E upgrade is likely on the cards, which is still an improvement, but if you care about upgrades like Wi-Fi 7 and specifically want an iPhone, you will have to do a little waiting.
