The WWDC 2023 keynote is expected to hold a multitude of announcements, and for a long time, we have been hearing that Apple will announce new Macs at the event. Additional evidence that the technology giant will unveil new hardware comes in the form of Mark Gurman’s latest tweet, stating that the company will initiate trade-ins for various existing Macs.
Trade-ins will likely be accepted for customers upgrading to the larger 15-inch MacBook Air, as Apple hopes to increase sales going forward
In its last earnings call, Apple’s Mac business saw a notable decline and only brought in $7.2 billion for the company, down from $10.4 billion compared to the last quarter. These disappointing statistics and Apple’s upcoming plan tweeted by Gurman have some co-relation while also suggesting that the larger 15-inch MacBook Air will be announced at the WWDC 2023 keynote. It makes complete sense for the company to start accepting trade-ins for the M2 MacBook Air and M2 MacBook Pro in exchange for the 15-inch model.
In this manner, customers can save up some money and get a bigger portable Mac while also contributing towards hitting a higher sales mark for Apple. However, the inclusion of the Mac Studio has us more puzzled, hinting that we could be in for a significant surprise. According to Gurman’s tweet, he expects new ‘Macs’ to be announced at WWDC; the word ‘Macs’ is plural, meaning that we could see something other than the 15-inch MacBook Air getting announced at the keynote. Apart from a Mac Pro, nothing else comes to our mind at this time.
In the past, Gurman has mentioned that the AR headset will be announced at WWDC but made no mention of a Mac Pro. It is possible that the trade-in for the Mac Studio could be for the 15-inch MacBook Pro, but our gut tells us that we might be in for a surprise in the coming days. The Mac Studio is in a weird spot right now, as the M2 Pro Mac mini sporting a 12-core CPU and 19-core GPU, is more powerful in multi-core performance while also being cheaper than the M1 Max variant of Apple’s premium and compact desktop.
Gurman may also have meant that the 15-inch MacBook Air will have multiple variants, as it the case with every Apple product launch, so the term ‘Macs’ could be referring to different configurations. In any case, the keynote is only a few days away, so we will have several announcements ready for our readers, so stay tuned.
