After resting in the rumor mill for a while. Apple has announced its Apple Music Classical app which you can pre-order right now. The app will be released to the general public later this month, potentially alongside iOS 16.4  Scroll down to read more details on what you can expect from the app.

Apple Music Classical is a standalone app for the genre, but you will require an Apple Music Subscription

Apple acquired Primephonic music service back in 2021. The company transformed the platform into a standalone app that will cater to the Classical genre. It was previously reported that the company will release the Classical app in December of last year but failed to meet the deadline. Now, the app is scheduled to launch on March 28.

Apple usually bundles a new app with an iOS software update but this time, it will have to be downloaded manually on the iPhone and iPad. For instance, Apple released the Freeform app on the iPhone with the release of iOS 16.2. The Apple Music Classical app is now available on the App Store and you can pre-order it right now. if you pre-order the app, it will be downloaded automatically as soon as it launches.

As for what you can expect, the Apple Music Classical app will offer easy-to-navigate controls to find classical music. It comes with an optimized search and high-quality audio. Additionally, the collection includes various classical favorites that take advantage of Apple's spatial audio output. It also includes a range of filtered playlists, exclusive albums, composer biographies, and much more. As for the app interface, users can navigate through various elements with ease. Apple has also added accurate portraits of composers like Beethoven, Chopin, and more. Additional digital portraits will be updated in future updates.

In terms of output, Apple Music Classical is capable of streaming at up to 192 KHz/24-bit lossless audio. It is great to see that Apple is exploring the Classical genre and it is one of the factors that will differentiate the company from its competition. As mentioned earlier, Apple Music Classical will be available to all users on March 28 potentially alongside iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4. If you want to use the app on an older device, Apple Music Classical is compatible with iOS 15.4 and all newer versions.
