Microsoft has been working on “Windows Experience Pack” for a while now and it is currently available for both Windows 10 and Windows 11. In addition to Windows Experience packs, Microsoft is now experimenting with another updates delivery system called “Online Service Experience Packs”.
Like Windows Experience Packs, Online Experience Packs would be a new way of delivering features to Windows 11 users without asking them to download a new version of the operating system.
Microsoft has released the first version of the Online Service Experience Pack for Windows Insiders in the Dev channel and it apparently works in a similar way as the Feature Experience Packs do. At the moment, it is expected to include improvements for the new Microsoft account integration introduced with Build 22489.
Windows 11 Build 22489 comes with a new page to manage your Microsoft account. As you can see in the above screenshot, Windows 11’s “Your Microsoft account” Settings displays information related to your active subscriptions, apps, services, and other details of the account.
For example, you can also view your Outlook email and access links to order history, payment details (linked cards), and Microsoft Rewards.
Based on feedback from testers, Microsoft is planning to improve the Windows Settings app via Online Service Experience Packs.
These Online Service Experience Packs will reportedly allow the company to make changes to the operating system outside of major Windows feature updates.
If you’re in the Dev Channel, you can expect a new update titled “Online Service Experience Pack – Windows.Settings.Account”.
This particular update will only make changes to the “Microsoft Account” page within the Settings app, according to Microsoft.
That’s because Online Service Experience Packs will be released with improvements for specific experiences only. For example, you can expect improvements to the disk management page, Windows Update page, and other areas of the Settings app via these Windows 11 updates.
If the company wants to deliver board improvements across multiple areas of File Explorer, Start Menu, and Taskbar, they’ll release Windows Feature Experience Packs and Windows feature update.
Experience packs are available through Windows Update and you can check for updates to find them.
It looks like online experience packs will be exclusive to Windows 11 as the goal is to use these updates to improve different shells and features of the modern OS system. Windows 11 features modern components like a new taskbar and settings, which could allow Microsoft to easily add new features without the need for a whole new update for Windows.
