You can factory reset your Magic Keyboard or Magic Mouse using your Mac connected via Bluetooth in a few easy steps.
Planning to Sell Your Magic Keyboard or Magic Mouse? Or Running into Bluetooth Issues? Do a Factory Reset
There will come a point where you might run into an issue or two with the Magic Keyboard or Magic Mouse on your Mac. Or, you might make the decision to sell one of the two accessories. If that is the case, then you might want to perform a proper factory reset of said accessories before handing them off. You do not want the other person buying those accessories running into 'Jason's Magic Mouse 2', do you? Of course you do not. So, read through and we will show you how you can take your Magic Mouse or Magic Keyboard to factory settings using a Mac.
Tutorial
Step 1. Assuming you are paired to your Mac via Bluetooth, find the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar. If you do not see the Bluetooth icon, then you can enable it by going to System Preferences > Bluetooth > Show Bluetooth in menu bar
Step 2. Click on the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar while holding down the Option + Shift keys on the keyboard
Step 3. Now simply click on Factory reset all connected Apple devices
Your connected Magic Mouse and Keyboard will instantly return to factory settings. You can now re-pair it with your Mac or give it away if that is what you plan on doing.
We wish if this was possible on something like an iPad as well, but surprisingly, you can perform the factory reset only using a Mac. There are no button combinations that you can press in order to do it directly from the mouse or keyboard itself.
