Amazon captured another three Golden Globe awards Sunday night as the annual celebration of film and television took on the look of a long-running Zoom meeting from the homes of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Amazon Studios won two awards for “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” including best picture musical or comedy — a first for a streaming service — and best actor in musical or comedy for star Sacha Baron Cohen.
John Boyega won a best supporting actor Globe for his role in “Small Axe.” He thanked Amazon Prime in his video-conferenced acceptance speech.
Amazon was nominated for 10 awards overall, the most for the tech giant since 2017. Netflix led the way on Sunday night, winning 10 trophies during a year in which the pandemic impacted how we consume media, with most films bypassing theatrical releases and binge watching of TV becoming a quarantine life saver.

The show was hosted in bicoastal fashion by Tina Fey, in New York, and Amy Poehler, in Los Angeles. Some presenters appeared in person, but all winners accepted remotely, and the small, in-person audience at the normally glitzy affair was made up of first responders.
Poehler joked that it was hard to tell which nominees were for movies or television because theaters were closed and we watched everything on our phones this year. Fey gave a nod to all the fantastic TV shows we binge-watched this year — “including zoom channels about your schools being closed.”
There were some audio and technical glitches across the remote divide. “Can you hear me now?” actor Daniel Kaluuya asked as he appeared muted while winning the first award of the night.
Some nominees were dressed casually at home — Including Jodie Foster in pajamas — while others pulled out their red-carpet best. Kids and spouses joined on couches to makes parts of the event feel especially family friendly.
